EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS

PANIC AT GENOA. THE PEOPLE ALARMED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) ROME, September 23. (Received September 23, 11 p.m.) Since last night seven severe earthquake shocks have been felt at Genoa. There were amazing scenes, the panic stricken populace fleeing to the seashore and open country. No fatalities have been reported but serious »damage to property is recorded. The shocks occurred between 2 o’clock in the afternoon and 5 o’clock in the morning. During the evening the city was choked with fugitives. Audiences forced their way out of the theatre, while the terror spread to the hospitals where patients strove to gain their freedom. Many people refuse to enter buildings and are camping in the open. A series of shocks are reported in the Italian Riviera. So far the damage is not serious, but the shocks are alarming the people.
