BASUTOLAND

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OPENS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian ’ and N.Z. Cable Association.) CAPETOWN, September 10. Unusual interest attaches to the great Basuto Pitao (or National Assembly), which was opened to-day at Marseru by the Earl of Athlone (the Governor-General). Over 30,000 natives were present, many having ridden miles over the hills. This is said to be the biggest Piteo on record in Basutoland under Imperial rule. No European is allowed to own land in the country, which is also under stricter Prohibition regulations than America.
