| JUBILEE CARNIVAL OPENS. All roads led to the King’s Hall last evening when the Garrison Band Carnival opened for business at 7 o’clock. The energetic committee, headed by (he Secretary, Mr Arthur Butt, had spared neither time nor trouble in an effort to make the Carnival one of the biggest and best that yet had been held in Invercargill, and if the number and variety of stalls and the I originality and novelty of the many sideshows has any attraction for the public, record attendances are assured. ' Of the many attractions the “Mystic ' Mirror” is a great favourite, and numbers lof curious pleasure-seekers found much I merriment in the weird and fantastic re- ! flections that faced them from all sides iof the side-show room. The shooting gali lery, racing game and hoop-la were also well patronised, and the auctioning hardi ware utensils and fancy goods by Mr C. Trim formed a great attraction for the ladies, whose bidding was brisk and keen. One of the features of the Carnival is the pretty decorations on the stalls, each of which represents a local football club, and is hung with streamers of the club colours. The stall-holders are as follows: Star Flower Stall Mrs A. Murphy. 1 Blues Sweet Stall- Mesdamea L. Foster, !J. Graves and J. Shepherd. Pirates Work Stall Mesdames W. Tretheway, W. M iley and P. Plumer. Waikiwi Jumble Stall -Mesdames E. Thomson, G. Parry and A. C. Robinson. Bluff Produce Stall —Mesdames R. Longley and H. Sim. Marist Art Stall—Mesdames Z. Matthews and C. Good. Magic Reflector —Messrs A. E. Beadle and D. Farnie. Hoop-la—Mr T. Parry. Soft Drinks- Messrs W. Tretheway, W. Milley and P. Geddes. Christmas Tree and Bran Tub Mrs J. Burstall. Supper Rooms —Mesdames H. Hall and J. F. Campbell. During the evening selections were played by the Garrison Band and a concert programme was provided, Messrs C. Abbotts and Geo. Clapham giving items. Many of the competitions were also decided, with the following results:—Lady’s handbag, Selina Henderson; box chocolates, G. R. Lyall; lady’s bag, Esther King; black and white doll, J. A. Doig; box cigarettes, C. Church; wristlet watch, Gwen Clark; cushion, C. Smith. The Carnival will be continued to-morrow evening, and each evening for a week, and full houses are to be expected each evening as the object is a worthy one and the efforts made for the entertainment of all are most complete.
