LICENSING COMMITTEE
WAKAITPU DISTRICT. The quarterly meeting of the Wakatipu Licensing Committee was held in the Courthouse (Queenstown) on Thursday. Present: Messrs D. F. Sutherland, J. Thornton, C. Murphy and L. Faigan. Owing to the Stipendiary Magistrate (Mr G. L. Hewitt) not being gazetted chairman of a Licensing Committee, he was unable to preside. Mr Sutherland was appointed actingchairman. The following applications which were adjourned from the annual meeting of the Committee in June last, were granted:— Publicans’ Licenses (new) —A. Tilbury, Moa Creek Hotel; J. Saunders, Bannockburn Hotel, Bannockburn; A. Niall, Commercial Hotel, Clyde; Geo. Larking, Dunstan Hotel, Clyde; A. H. Timms, Hartley Arms Hotel, Clyde; T. Holland, Grand Hotel, Roxburgh. Publicans’ Licenses (renewals).—R. D. Irvine, Commercial Hotel, Cromwell; M. F. Perkins, Commercial Hotel Omakau; H. T. Jones, Bridge Hotel, Miller’s Flat; Chas. Sloper, Commercial Hotel, Roxburgh; R. Haig, Welcome Home Hotel, Lowburn; Ernest V. Pitches, Shamrock Hotel, Ophir. An application for renewal of accommodation license was granted to Robt. Mee, White Horse Hotel, Becks. Permanent transiers were granted as follows: —Bridge Hotel, Beaumont, Edward Pearson to Thos. Hall; Eichardt’s Hotel, Queenstown, D. F. Murchison to Thos. Rutherford; Bridge Hotel, Miller’s Flat, Jas. Hand to Henry T. Jones. The application of the licensees of the Criterion Club Hotel (Alexandra), Hartley Arms Hotel (Clyde), Central Hotel (Arrowtown) and Bendigo Hotel (Alexandra) were all adjourned till the next quarterly meeting, pending with repair or erection of fire escapes. Inspector McNamara represented the Police and Messrs R. Gilkison and W. Harlow (Clyde) supported the applications.
