MIDDLE SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING. Hie monthly meeting of the above was held in the school on Tuesday, there being present: Messrs Anderson, Brown, Dempster, Lyon, Moore, and Vast. The Chairman welcomed, on behalf of the Committee, Mr G. Dempster, who had been appointed to the position rendered vacant through Mr Mitchell resigning, the latter having been transferred to Dunedin. It was decided to congratulate Mr A. W. Jones on his appointment on the Education Board, wishing him every success. The following gentlemen were appointed to the Executive of the Schools’ Association: —Messrs Moore, Anderson and Brown. Messrs Moore and Lyon were requested to go into the matter of school certificates in lieu of prizes. It was resolved that the chairman interview the headmaster and staff, enlisting their services thereon, arrange place and date, and call a special meeting of parents and friends through advertisement in both the local papers. The Board wrote stating the holidays to be observed during the current year. Mr A. W. Jones wrote thanking all committees for their support at the recent Education Board election; also stating that he would be very pleased to further any reasonable request coming from the Committee, and would like all committeemen’s co-operation. The Visiting Committee for September are Messrs Campbell and Lyon. Accounts passed for payment totalled £34 3/-. The Chairman reported that Mr Jones had visited the school, and he brought before him the urgent need of a uew infant school. The Chairman was also requested Ho interview the Chief Inspector (Mr Strachan), and request him to meet the Committee next meeting to discuss several important matters, heating of school, oto.
