SHOT BY MEXICAN BANDITS

LORD JELLICOE’S NEPHEW. REFUSAL TO PAY RANSOM. (Reuter’s Telegrams.) MEXICO CITY, July 11. Mr Herbert Vereker, a newhew of Viscount Jellicoe, has been shot dead by bandits at Portiero de Lland, Vera Cruz. It is declared that he met his death because of his refusal to hand over a sum of money' demanded by the bandits. Mr Vereker, who was employed by the Eagle Oil Company, had already been twice captured by the last occasion being on May 19. He was held captive for twelve days, and released despite the fact that a ransom of £2OOO demanded by the bandits had not been paid. Mr Vereker’s body has been taken to Tampico.
