As a sequel to recent devastating floods in the Napier district (says an exchange), Messrs Richardson and Co., shipowners, wrote to the police pointing out that two oS their boats, manned by their employees, went to the rescue of persons cut off by the deluge, and intimating that monetary recompense should be made to the ?nen, some of whom suffered from exposure and nervous strain arising from their efforts in the work of rescue. The police, in turn, wrote to the chairman of the Hawke’s Bay River Board, intimating that the latter body should suitably pay the men concerned.
