WALLACE HOSPITAL
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wallace Hospital Board was held on Thursday. The following members were present: Messrs S. Fowle (chairman), T. A. Buckingham, J. Horrel, J. Johnstone, J/ C. Thomson, M.P., F. F. Lincott, and Miss Hunt. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was dealt with as follows : From the secretary, Otago Hospital Board, in reference to a patient lately residing at Colac Bay, and who was admitted into the Dunedin Hospital for treatment. Also claiming the amount of £2 5/- as maintenance from the Wallace Board.—Received. From the secretary, Southland Hospital Board in reference to a patient residing in Nightcaps who was admitted to Southland Hospital for special eye treatment.—Received. From the secretary, Southland Hospital Board, in reference to a patient residing in Manapouri district, now in Invercargill Hospital.—Received. From the secretary, Southland Hospital Board, in reference to a claim by th® Southland Board from the Wallace Board for maintenance of Wallace patients in the Southland Hospital, amounting to £412 5/6, and stating that the claim had been submitted to the Minister of Health for his adjudication, and also stating that he was forwarding the correspondence between the two Boards, that was forwarded with the claim, to the Minister. —The secretary was instructed to forward the correspondence in reference to this claim to the Minister.
From Dr Valentine, in reference to Southland’s claim for £412 5/6 for maintenance of Wallace patients having been received, and asking the Wallace Board to forward their comments and correspondence upon the claim.—Received.
The secretary read several replies to the several claims against the Wallace patients in the above claim for the information of the members, and stated that while a few promised to do something towards paying off the claim against them, a large number made no offer at all. .
A letter was received from an Otautau resident asking for assistance from the Wallace Board. The secretary reported on the visit of Mr Fowle (the chairman), T. A. Buckingham, and himself to this resident of Otautau.— It was decided to leave this case in the hands of the secretary. A letter was received from thd secretary of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee, stating that the Wallace Board were requested to nominate a member as their representative on the Committee.
Mr S. Fowle was appointaed the Wallace Board’s representative on the Sanatorium Committee.
A letter was received from a resident of Orepuki in reference to his daughter’s admission to Waipiata Sanatorium, and enclosing the doctor’s certificate.—The Board approved of the application. The application to be forwarded to the secretary of the Sanatorium Committee.
A letter was received from the Tuatapere District Nursing Committee, stating that the Committee would be pleased to rent the building as a maternity home, when alterations were completed, and also asking the amount of rent the Board would charge. It also stated that a maternity home was essential for the district.—The Board decided to go on with the erection of extra rooms. Mr Thomson also moved, and Mr Buckingham seconded: “That the secretary and the Committee should advise the Board as to their intended financial arrangements.” This was carried. A letter was received from Mr T. Pryde, secretary of the Radium. Supply Committee, in reference to Southland’s appeal for £2500 to purchase radium. Also advising of a meeting to be held to arrange a campaign for collecting, and asking for the Board’s wishes in regard to the campaign. Mr Thomson moved, and Mr Johnston seconded: “That this Board approves of the appeal about to be made, and that this Board prefers the Central Committee to make the appeal, and that this Board will assist in every way.”—Carried An application from Miss Helen Ramsay, Winton, to be placed on the list, of probationers was received.—lt was decided to place Miss Ramsay’s name on the waiting list.
