(Received June 2, 9.15 p.m.) Tex Rickards has announced that Luie Firpo will meet Harry Wills, barring unforeseen difficulties, between August 1 and 10 at Boyle's Thirty Acres, Jersey City, for the privilege of meeting Jack Dempsey for the heavyweight championship of the world in the same arena in September. Wills has signed, and Firpo is expected to sign on Sunday at Buenos Ayres, at approximately 250,000 dollars. Wills' portions has not yet been an* nounced. Rickard wishes to stage an elimination contest at least a month before the cham* pionship. the big clash. HOW GIBBONS BEAT CARPENTIER. NEW YORK, May 31. Great public interest was aroused in the Carpentier-Gibbons fight held at. Michigan City, and when the boxers appeared, there were scenes of tumultous enthusiasm, Carpentier entered the ring weighing 1741b*. Gibbons being three pounds heavier. Gibbons, though disappointed st his failure to score a knock-out, expressed satisfaction at the ease with which he defeated Carpentier. He believed he had convinced the public that he was entitled to another crack at Dempsey. Carpentier said Gibbons was the best boxer he had ever faced. His hits were terrific. He now realised how he had managed to stay 15 rounds with Dempsey. Can pentier said that if his ankle had not bee injured he could possibly have scored knock-out. He declared he had determine*, to box Gibbons at long range, seeking an opportunity for a decisive right hand blow.
