GREEK REPUBLIC

A DECISIVE MAJORITY. RECOGNITION BY FRANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) PARIS, April 16. (Received April 18, 5.5 p.m.). France has granted the Republican Government of Greece de jure recognition. LONDON, April 16. The Athens correspondent of the Times says : “The returns show that the Republicans secured a majority of 68 per cent, throughout Greece. It is generally recognised that the plebiscite was conducted fairly, and the result generally favours a Republic. The Monarchists have taken their defeat with a good grace. They admit that they misinterpreted the sentiments of the people.”
