MUSIC ADDED TO DEGREE LISI (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Febntary IS; An innovation to the examination fol the B.A. degree was agreed to at to-dny’i meeting of the Senate of the New Zealand University in the addition of mnsia. The Arts and Commerce Committee recommended that the Statute governing the degree of Bachelor of Arte be amended by including music in the list of subjects for the BA. examination at the pass grade, teachers of minis in the coßegos to be asked to frame a suitable pnaenption and report before the next meeting of the Board of Studies. In presenting the report, Profemor J. Hight said it was desired that the student should be able to understand a paeee of music like any other piece of literature. It was felt that if music was included in the course, the subject would be taken advantage of to a large extent by teachers, and its influence would get into the schools. The motion was seconder! by Hon. J. A. Hanan, and carried unanimously.
