NORTHERN LIGHTS

PHENOMENA EXPLAINED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) CHRISTIANIA, February 17. According to the Aftenposten, Dr Vegard. professor of physics at Christiania University, has discovered the solution of the riddle of the Northern Lights. Dr Vegand claims that, after many years research, he has ascertained that the temperature in the uppermost stratum of the air is so low that nitrogen vapour becomes solidified in crystal form. These compact crystalline particles surrounding the earth as a balloon explain the green line of Northern Lights and other phenomena hitherto inexplicable.
