HOSPITAL BOARD
FOR WALLACE AND FIORD. The monthly meeting of the Board, held on Thursday, was attended by Messrs Samuel Fowle (chairman), J. C. Thomson, Jno. Horrell, J. G. Johnston, F. J. Linscott, F J Dyer and Miss H L Hunt The Department of Health wrote forwarding Ministerial approval to the erection of an Old People’s Home on the Hospital Reserve. —Received. Tenders for the erection of the Old People’s Home were opened and that of Lachlan Gray, builder of Invercargill accepted. The Waipiata Sanatorium Committee forwarded a copy of the report received from the Health Department in reference to placing the question of consumptive sanatoria of the South Island on a more equitable basis as compared with similar .institutions in the North Island. On Mr Thomson’s motion it was resolved that the report lie on the table. Southland War Funds Association wrote asking the Board to favourably consider a reduction in a returned soldier’s account owing for treatment in the Wallace Hospital.—Resolved to advise War Funds Association to make application to the Southland Hospital Board as the patient was a resident in Southland County. The District Nurse, Tuatapere. wrote tendering her resignation on account of ill-health. —Resolved that same be accepted. Mrs Harrison, local secretary of the Tuatapere District Nurses’ Committee, waited on the Board and suggested that an addi tion of one room be added to the Home and that the Home in future be used as a maternity hospital.—The Board referred the matter to the chairman (Mr Fowle), Mr Horrell and the secretary for report at next meeting. Dr N. G. Trotter, Medical Superintendent to the Wallace and Fiord Hospital, reported that he had secured the services of Dr Kingston, of Dunedin, as his locum tenens during his absence on leave to the Old Country. —The Board approved to the appointment of Dr Kingston as acting medical superintendent to the local hospital. The Hospital Committee recommended the placing of a doorway in the east wall of the female ward leading to the rest room and drew attention to certain renovations required in the ward. —Resolved that an'inspection be made during the visit of the Board to the Hospital in the afternoon. The Auckland Hospital Board forwarded an account for £22 for the treatment of an ex-Wallace resident in the Auckland Hospital.—Resolved that the account be forwarded to the debtor with a request for payment. A resident of Ohai wrote asking for a reduction in his account for hospital expenses and ambulance hire.—To be informed that the Board cannot see its way to make any reduction. Accounts amounting to £382 10b were passed for payment.
