EFFECT OF A STRIKE

UNEMPLOYMENT SPREADS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 14. Although the coke workers on strike number only 350, it is estimated that 3,000 men will be rendered idle as a result of the strike. Nearly 1,000 have been paid off at Hoskins iron and steel works, and more will be paid off weekly until the strike is settled. It is feared that if it continues it will cause considerable unemployment in the southern coal mines, as no small coal used in the coke works is-, now being removed.
