TOWN EXPANSION

PROPOSED AMALGAMATION. COMMITTEE’S REPORT. At the fortnightly meeting of the Invercargill Town Council, to be held tc-morrow evening, the Public Works Committee will report making the following recommendations in regard to the proposed amalgamation of Waikiwi and Collingwood with Invercargill. ‘Your Committee suggests the following . boundaries and rates, etc., in connection with the preposed amalgamation of Waikiwi and Collingwood with Invercargill. “From Waihopai along railway to West Plains Road, along northern boundary West Plains Road to North Road, thence south along North Road to north-western comer of Section 25, Plan 79, thence east along northern boundary to Section 25, a distance of 5 chains, then south to southern boundary of Section 11, Plan 79. thence east along southern boundary of Section 11, to southeastern corner of Section 11, thence south to North-eastern corner of Section 7, thence west along northern boundary of Section 7, to a point 5 chains east of North Road, thence south to southern boundary, of Section 16, thence east along southern boundary of Section 16 to south-east corner of Section 16, then in easterly direction to Elies Road, on a boundary to be definitely fixed later, and to include the Waihopai Scenic reserve, then east of Elies Road, and along eastern boundary of Reserve to Waihopai River, then to north-eastern comer of Section 36, then due south to Layard street. The whole of this area bounded on the south by the existing boundaries of the Borough of Invercargill. “Rates.—General, Southland Hospital and charitable Aid Rate, Lighting Rate, Special Rate for present loan, and in future, loans raised for this area will also bfl subject to a special rate. Until such tim-3 as an up-to-date sewerage system is installed, a special charge will have to be made for a nightsoil service, direct charge being so much per pan, depending very largely on situation of Nightsoil Depot. Maintenance of North Road will be undertaken on condition that the Southland County contributes the sum of £125 per annum, twewards maintenance of North Road from Waihopai Bridge to West Plains Road, for a term of 10 years.”
