MISSING MONEY

BOROUGH COUNCIL’S DILEMMA. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 14. At a meeting of the Devonport Borough Council the Mayor (Mr Lamont), commenting on the recent prosecution against the town clerk, said the position now was that £362 of the Borough’s money was missing. Nobody knew anything about it. . Wilson had promised to resign the town clerkship, but had later stated that he would wait action on the part of the Council. The Mayer moved that Wilson be summarily dismissed from his offices under the control of the Council. The motion was carried, the Mayor stating that the ground on which the town clerk was dismissed was simply negligence. The Council decided to accept the resignation of Chamber, the assistant town clerk, and transferred Miss Faulbaum from cashier to a clerkship at a reduced salary. The Borough solicitor was instructed to take action for the recovery of the lost moneys from the insurance companies concerned.
