SWIMMING

(By “Taniwha.”) Swimmers and surfers know how changeable the climate is down here. But still swimming can be enjoyed in the rain as the large numbers at Pleasure Bay during wet days go to prove. Regarding the handicapping of Miss Helen Nicoll at the recent Avenal Carnival, Mr Huntley Dunlop informs me that he mixed the name with that of another Miss Nicoll who had done very well at Avenal previously. There are quite a number of young divers showing promise at Pleasure Bay this season. Miss. Maud Messent is consistent and should be good enough for competitions at present. Miss Marjorie Dunbar is quite fearless and has accomplished many fine dives already. It would be interesting to have a contest between the younger lady divers at Pleasure Bay, and nothing tends to improvement so much as competition.
