‘ BALFOUR SALE. LIVE STOCK MARKET. The first sale this season was held at the Balfour yards on Thursday in fine weather. The attendance was good, and the yarding comprised <3016 sheep, the biggest proportion of which. consisted of lambs. Some fat lambs of good quality were forward, and a pen of extra good ones made 34/3, while others'made"3l/37''Fat ewes realised* 20'/-’. Dalgety & Co. report having received the following advice from their head office, London, under date of February 14:—“The sheepskin sales opened with good attendance of buyers and an active demand. American, Continental and English buyers are operating. As compared with last sales’ closing rates: Merino are 10 to 15 per cent, higher; New Zealand fine crossbred 15 to 20 per cent, higher; New Zealand medium and coarse crossbred 20 per cent, higher; and crossbred shorn pelts 25 to 30 per cent, higher.” TALLOW. PRICES SLIGHTLY LOWER. Dalgety & Co., Ltd., report having received the following advice from their head office, London, under date of February 13: —“At the tallow sales this week 555 casks were offered, of which 385 were sold.
