ANNUAL PICNIC
THOMSON AND BEATTIE’S EMPLOYEES. The employees of Thomson and Beattie, Ltd., held this year’s picnic at the Rocks, Riverton, on Wednesday last. The party left the shop at 8.30 and had a nice run out. They found the tide out so got their sports programme off soon after lunch. Some good running performances were put up by both sexes, the prizes for each event being appreciated. Mr Donaldson won the 75yds handicap, and also was first in stepping a chain distance. Mr Flegg won the consolation race. Miss Susie Stroud won two of the ladies’ races in fine style while Miss Hill won the visitors’ race. The threelegged race was won by Miss Gerrard and partner. Mr Rod Thomson distributed the prizes amidst great applause, no doubt on account of some of the “funny” prizes appearing on the programme. The paity spent the rest of the day swimming and enjoying themselves to the full. Three cheers for the firm at the tea adjournment terminated a day full of pleasure for everyone. Great credit is due to the committee of management in carrying out their many duties and making the picnic a great success.
