THE WEATHER AND PROPHECY.
To the Editor. Sir, —It is very amusing to wateh the Government Meterologist’s weather forecast from time to time, which is very seldom, or ever correct. During this week for instance, the forecasts have been given as follows:—“South-west to north-west winds, strong and squally at times,” whereas on Monday the wind was from the south-east. Tuesday it blew a very hot nortlheast wind in the afternoon was followed by a very heavy thunderstorm over the whole district, with heavy rain. Wednesday the wind still came from the north-east, with fine but cloudy and sultry weather. Thursday (to-day) the wind blew hot and sultry, and again in the afternoon was followed by a violent thunderstorm with vivid lightning and torrential rain, which raged for several hours over the Southland district. I think when we compare the Meterologist’s forecasts with the state of the weather lately they fall very far short of being correct. The weather for this last week has been very hot and sultry, with electrical disturbances, followed by heavy thunderstorms, all from the north-east. I am, etc., OBSERVER.
