ACCIDENTS & FATALITI

A LIFT FATALITY. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 17. An accident took place in the Accountant Chambers this evening resulting in the death of Gordon Stanley Vance, 18 years of age. Vance was employed by Watkins, Hull, Hunt and Wheeler, accountants. He entered the automatic lift with another lad and proceeded to the upper floor. What exactly happened is not clear but as the cage passed the ceiling of the ground floor, Vance, who had his back to the door, lost his balance, fell out and became jambed between the lift-floor and wall, death being instantaneous. The body was extricated with difficulty. The other occupant of the life was not in a fit state to be examined. The lift was supposed to be unworkable if the cage door were open.
