EMPIRE EXHIBITION
BRITISH FELLOWSHIP FORMED. A UNIQUE INSTITUTION. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) LONDON, December* 16. A Fellowship has been formed in connection with the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley. All British citizens are eligible for membership, the subscription being 42/6 annually. This entitles a person to a membership ticket giving free admission to the Exhibition. The Fellowship will institute a number of prizes designed to extend the cause of Imperial education; also scholarships each of £lOOO. If awarded to persons overseas, they will provide university or technical education in England; if awarded in Britain, they will provide for the settlement of the recipient in one of the overseas dominions. Alternatively, recipients may stay in their own country and use the money for starting in life. The Prince of Wales has accepted the Presidency of the Fellowship. The Prince of Wales, in accepting the Presidency, writes: “I think many thousands throughout the Empire wish to do something more for the Exhibition’s success than visit it once or twice. The Fellowship, with its programme of Imperial education, scheme of settlement, scholarships and provision of season tickets for the Exhibition, is intended to meet these cases.” Sir Henry McMahon (chairman of the Executive Committee) made a statement that the Fellowships lasts only for the period of the Exhibition, but,” he added, “we expect the membership certificate will be signed by the Prince of Wales, so that it will be a reminder in future years of responsibilities to the Empire.” The Fellowship will be organised in three sections, namely, the dominions, London and the rest of the United Kingdom.
