A DOG’S FIDELITY
LOOKING AFTER AN EPILEPTIC. A touching little story of a dog’s fidelity to its master is narrated by an Oldham correspondent of the Daily Dispatch, who writes;—The dog—Tim—was a mongrel, and even, his best friends cculd not say he was beautiful. His owner was something of a stray like himself —an orphan who eked out a living selling newspapers—but their pact of friendship was marvellous. Tim’s owner was a victim of epileptic fits, and “worked” a spot which to one in his condition presented aspects of seme danger, for it was a crossing where four busy roads meet It was Tim that went to the offices for the various editions —in fact, Rm did all the running about. When I mentioned to the boy the risks he ran, he merely said, with a happy smile, ‘You forget, I have Tim.” A few days later I fully understood. Passing the crossing I missed him, blit at his usual place there was a crowd. I found Tim’s owner ill and Tim standing over him with his teeth bared. There was a policeman there, and I asked him anxiously if nothing could be done. “Just watch the dog,” he said. Then I knew why everyone admired Tim. He was licking his master’s face sharply, and occasionally gently nipping his ears and cheek. Soon his master’s eye flickered, and a murmur. “Good Tim,” passed through his lips Tim barked joyfully and gambolled round his master. The policeman then approached the boy and took charge. Tim had received the signal; and his part was finished.
