Mr and Mrs T. W. P. Vickery have returned from their trip to Australia. Mrs A. McCaw and her children returned home on Thursday to North Otago. Mr and Mrs W. Rennie returned from the holiday spent in the North Island yesterday. Miss Spence of Dunedin is at present the guest of Miss Kathleen Anderson, Victoria Park. . Mrs O. Mazengarb. Wellington, who has been the guest of her parents returned North last Thursday. Madame Lydia Lipkovska will give only one recital in Invercargill on Monday 7 evening, which will be marked in red letters. Mrs Fred Bartlett and Mrs E.’ J. Race of Fredrick street with their families leave for a three weeks’ holiday at Queenstown on Monday. w Miss M’. Smith, Rugby Street, gave a kitchen afternoon on Saturday in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Veda Mackintosh. The Invercargill Dramatic Club will stage ‘The Man From Toronto” on Tuesday 7 evening under the auspices of the Invercargill Cricket Association. The engagement is announced of Miss Maud E. Mabson, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. R. Mabson, of Crinan street, Invercargill, to Mr Willoughby Drummond, son of Mr and Mrs T. M. Drummond, of Greytown, Wairarapa. Miss Kathleen Anderson gave a jolly little dance at Victoria Park last night in honour :f her guest Miss Spence (Dunedin). Some ■f those present were Mr and Mrs Horace Macalister, Misses Watson, McPhail, Russell, Brodie, Henderson, K. Hazlett. Messrs Todd, Watson, Prain, Hazlett, Morrah, Royds, Todd (Dunedin), and Dr Kirker. A record crowd of town and country people were at the show this year. The weather being fine some very 7 pretty frocks were worn by the ladies. The A. and P. Association should attend to the entrance to the grounds. If the ladies had worn new shoes as no doubt some had, they would have been destroyed by the huge stones at the entrance to the grounds. A very pleasant social and dance was held in the Merrivale Homestead bam to raise funds for the school prizes. The chairman, Mr Ewan, thanked the people 'or turning out in such larg§ numbers, there being over 150 present. The following took part, Misses M. and N. Renowden, J. Matheson, Muriel Twemlow, Messrs Crawford, Andrews, McDougall, Saunders, Coulter, Muir, H. Twemlow and J. Bates. At a suitable interval the chairman passed a vote of thanks to Mrs Sheddon for the use of her piano and to those who assisted with the arrangements of the evening. Mrs A. McCaw, North Otago and Mrs R. D. Newth gave a kitchen tea for Miss Lena Mc6aw at Lewis’s Tea Rooms on Tuesday afternoon. Miss McCaw was the recipient of many useful articles for her future home. Among those present were Mrs C. J. Brodrick, Mrs A. J. McCaw, Mrs N. Brodrick, Mrs J. L. Watson, Mrs F. G. O’Bierne, Mrs J. T. Prain, Mrs E. Russell, Mrs R. Gilmour, Mrs J. G. Macdonald, Mrs F, D. Haggitt, T. Watscn, M. Logan and L. Henderson. The Southland Boys’ High School held a most enjoyable dance in the Y.M.C.A. Hall on Thursday evening as a suitable finish to their matriculation and annual examinations. The hall was very prettily decorated with coloured streamers. Mrs H. A. Macdonald played excellent music for the dance and a dainty supper was supplied by the ladies. Some of those present were Misses M. Todd, Ott, Holloway, McKenzie, Bailey, Cooper, Todd, Millar, Waugh, Cardno, Cameron, Geddes, Jenkins, Wilson, McDonald, Fraser, Bell, Brown, Griffeths, Raines, Messrs Todd, Hannon, Cochrane, McDonald, Scully, Clapp, Morgan, Moffett, Ferguson, Cochrane, Geddes, Green, Raines, Kettelwell. Robertson, Maher, Gordon, Mitchell, Griffeths, Ottrey, McKinnon, Horman, Rout, Shaw 7 , Hynd and Nisbet. .

A pleasant ceremony took place on Thursday at the Girl’s High School when the girls and stiff assembled to say farewell io Miss Drennan. The head girl on behalf of the school thanked Miss Drennan for the interest she had taken in the girls and their work and expressed their regret at her departure. She then presented Miss Drennan with a lined leather dressing case, a gold mounted fountain pen and a gold pencil. Later afternoon tea was given in the staff room when the teachers took the opportunity of expressing their appreciation of Miss Drennan’s work and their recognition of the. consideration she had consistently shown them. She was taking away their best wishes that her new work would prove congenial and that the fairer climate she was going to would bring both health and happiness. Their parting gift was a case of silver teaspoons. WEDDINGS. McGREGOR—DAVIDSON. At the Hokonui Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 28, the wedding was celebrated of Margaret Davidson, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Davidson, ‘‘Tulloch Lea” Hokonui, and Duncan McGregor, Forest Hill. The bride was given away by her father, wearing an ivory morocain frock, girdle of silver leaves and ribbon with veil and orange blossoms and carried a shower bouquet of lilies, sweet peas and maiden-hair fern. She was attended by Miss J. Davidson, who wore lemon crystoline and wreath of leaves round her hair to match, and Miss Joan McGregor wore pale blue crepe de chine with silver hair band. Beth carried shower bouquets of sweet peas, roses and maidenhair fem. Mr M. Watson and Mr R. Davidson was best man and groomsman respectively. Mr and Mrs D. McGregor will make their future home at Browns. CAMERON—TORRANCE. A most interesting and pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Matthew’s Church, Bluff on Wednesday, December 12, 1923, when May Huia Torrance, elder daughter of Dr. and Mrs Torrance was married to J. Laurens Cameron, son cf Mr and Mrs J. Cameron (Auckland), and late of Invercargill. The service was choral being conducted by the Rev. W. H. Roberts. The church was prettily decorated by friends of the bride. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a becoming gown of cream satin morocain, draped at the side, and sleeves of tiny frilled georgette, her veil was wern over the face and with a coronet of pink rose buds and silver leaves; little Miss Pat. Roberts carried her long morocain train lined with pink georgette, which hung from her shoulders. Miss Roberts wore a sweet little frock cf coral pink crepe de chine. The bride carried a bouquet of pale pink spireer, roses and maiden-hair fern. She was attended by Miss Elsie Torrance (sister of the bride), and Miss Dulcie Wilsen (Dunedin, cousin of the bride). They wore lavender and lemon georgette respectively; both were very simple, caught at waist with pearl ornament, each wore coronets of lemon and lavendar to harmonise with their frocks. Their bouquets were of pale shades of sweetpeas. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Russell Cameron and Mr Rex Royds as best man and groomsman respectively.
