ROYAL SHOW
FORMATION OF SOCIETY. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 13. The first step towards the holding of a Royal Agricultural and Pastoral Show was taken in Wellington this morning, when a preliminary meeting was held with the object of forming a Royal Agricultural Society. The meeting was convened by the Council of Agriculture. Mr W. Perry (Wairarapa), president of the Council, presided. Delegates were present from Wairarapa, Christchurch, Dunedin, Marton, Palmerston North, Turakina, Bulls, Dannevirke, Wellington and Hawke’s Bay. Mr Fraser, representing the Meat Board, and Mr Jack (secretary and convenor) were also present. A motion to form a Royal Society was, after discussion, carried unanimously.
The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr W. Perry; vice-presidents, Messrs R. M. Morton (Christchurch) and J. W. Dalrymple. Council: Messrs D. McGregor (Gladstone), J. L. Marshall (Marton), H. Y. Lethbridge (Turakina), S. B. Stuckey (Dannevirke), O. J. Hawken (Hawera), E. D. McLennan (Auckland East), D. Duthie (Dunedin), W. D. Pike (Blenheim), W. D. Hunt (Wellington), J. Begg (Dunedin), J. G. Hall (Hororata) and R. D. D. McLean (Hawke’s Bay).
In thanking the members, Mr Perry said the step taken was one of importance to New Zealand farmers. They must work far more scientifically than in the past if they were going to keep up with the rest of the world and the Society would work towards that object. It was decided that subject to agreement with the Manawatu A. and P. Society a show be held at Palmerston North in conjunction with the Manawri Society in 1924.
