He acted as special counsel for the United States in the case against the paper and Standard Oil trusts. He was special counsel for the Interstate Commerce Commission in the investigation of the Harrison railroad, and was engaged in many notable commercial cases. He has been president of the American Bar Association. In politics he is a strong republican.]
