“THE TRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE.” FINAL SCREENING TO-NIGHT. The popularity of the current programme at the Civic shows no signs of waning. That fact is not to be wondered at, seeing that the star attractions are “The Trail of the Lonesome Pine,” with Mary Miles Minter and Antonio Moreno in the principal roles and the Arrow-Universal melodrama, “The Streets of New York,” with Barbara Castleton and Edward Earle in the lead. “The Trail of the Lonesome Pine" is based on the well-known story’ by John Fox Junr., and is made much more attractive by its presentation on the screen. “The Streets of New York” is thrilling melodrama—the story of a man who, when in a tight corner, wrongfully retained another man’s money, upon which he built a fortune. In later years his sin found him out, and he paid the penalty in dramatic circumstances. The final thrill is one of the biggest of the year. Buddy Messenger is also on this programme in a Century comedy. This is the last night of the season. ALBION THEATRE. LAST NIGHT OF “A FOOL THERE WAS” AND VERA JAMES. Another large audience paid the comfortable Albion a visit last night and thoroughly enjoyed the splendid fare provided. “To err is human, to forgive divine.” ‘Know Thy Child” is a fine gripping drama based on this great truth, and bearing on life as we all know it and understand it. It tells of a young innocent girl, betrayed by a man who was too much of a coward to bear the consequence of his own actions. After a life of struggle and misery, attended by tragic consequences, the girl proved her nobility of character, and forgave the great wrong she had suffered. Miss Vera James, the well-known Dunedin lady, plays the leading part in this Australian production. The second half of the programme is taken up by the big Fox picture, “A Fool There Was.” This is a gay gorgeous drama of life where it is spelled with a capital L, and the caste includes such well-known players as Lewis Stone, Irene Rich, Marjorie Daw, Mahlan Hamilton, Wallace Macdonald, William Mong, and a host of others. With a good story and such a caste of players it is not to be wondered at that the production is one of the very best. A A Mermaid comedy on house-cracking concludes a dandy programme. Seats may be reserved by telephoning the Albion 738.
