FIRE AT TIMARU
FLOUR MILLS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. (Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, November 14. An outbreak of fire late last night caused the destruction of the big flour mills known as Bruce’s Silo Mills situated in High street. Through the fine efforts of the Fire Brigade the huge wheat store in close proximity was saved. The Brigade turned out promptly but the fire had obtained a great hold and the water supply proved inadequate. The fire started in the fifth storey and worked downwards, the destruction of the premises being practically complete. The building was of five storeys and was only completed in April. At the height of the conflagration the flames made an imposing sight, being visible for many miles around and illuminating a large portion of the south end of the town.
The mills were owned by a local company of which Mr James Wilson is chairman of directors, other directors being Messrs J. Hutchison, J. Macaulay and J. R. Bruce, the latter being managing director,
