EMPIRE EXHIBITION
HOUSING THE VISITORS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, November 14. (Received November 14, 8.50 a.m.) The Daily Express says it is estimated that 25,000,000 people will visit the British Empire Exhibition. London is making no adequate arrangements to house the visitors from overseas. Careful Calculations of the probable visitors from the dominions are:—Canada 200,000, Australia 60,000, South Africa 40,000, New Zealand 20,000. There will also be 300,000 from the United States, and a heavy invasion from the continent and provinces. The available accommodation in London's 4000 hotels, private hotels and boarding-houses, excluding the suburban area, is only 100,000 beds, most of which are occupied at ordinary times in the summer. The joint committee representing the hotel industry considered the problem and recommended the establishment of a central accommodation office. The authorities of the Exhibition later rejected it.
