Considerable interest was displayed in the senior match Orepuki v. Riverton, which was played on the local recreation ground on Wednesday and resulted in a win for Orepuki by 6 points to 3. The game was fast and spectacular and the first half was very even, there being no score at halftime. For Orepuki, Ackers kicked a penalty goal and Ferguson scored. L. Cumming kicked a penalty goal for Riverton. A very successful social was held in aid of St. Leonard’s Church, Thornbury, on Wednesday evening. A very good programme was provided by the following performers: —Mesdames Webb and Swhan, Misses Bowers and Hillis, and Messrs Hogg, Webb, Dehenteam, Stevens, Hall and Rae. Immediately after supper dancing was commenced to music supplied by Miss Clisbjr and Messrs Euston and Foster.

The monthly meeting of the Society held on Tuesday last was well attended, Rev. C. Webb occupying the chair. Nurse Graham addressed the members and reported that the movement was steadily gaining ground. An average of 36 visits to homes and 12 to the rooms was being maintained per month. The advisability of erecting a rest room for mothers was discussed and the ladies promised to find the money provided a suitable aite was procured. The annual general meeting of GummiesWild Bush Hall shareholders was held in the hall on Friday evening, June 15, Mr Moffatt occupying the chair. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the chairman congratulated the Committee on the year’s results. The balancesheet showed receipts £2l 2/4 ; expenditure

£ll 6/2; credit balance, £9 16/2. The following Committee were elected for the ensuing year:— Messrs F. McKay (chairman), W. Moffatt (secretary), C. Mollay (treasurer), R. Shearing, G. White, S. Barron, W. Molloy and W. McGill. There was a very large congregation at the induction of the Rev. Jas. Fordyce into the charge of the Presbyterian Church in Riverton on Thursday evening. The service was carried out in a very impressive manner by the Rev. G. H. Crockett, Moderator of the Presbytery. Rex. J. A. Reilly preached the sermon, Rev. G. H. Gilbert addressed the new minister, and the Rev. A. McNeur addressed the congregation. After the Bernice a social gathering to welcome Rev. and Mrs Fordyce was held in More’s Hall, Rev. G. H. Gilbert presiding. Short addresses of welcome were delivered by Ren 7 . VoweU (Methodist), Adjutant Padmore (Salvation Army), and Messrs L. C. Beet ham, McFarlane and E. C. Hewat. Rev. Gilbert was presented with a cheque from the officebearers and congregation, in recognition of his services in bringing about a speedy settlement and in appreciation of his genial and courteous manner as chairman of the selection committee. buted by Mrs McFarlane, Rev. Gilbert and Mr Philp; and refreshments were provided by the ladies. The Doxology and benediction brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
