GENERAL CABLES

(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) PARIS, June 20. (Received June 22, 8.15 pjn.) Mademoiselle Marthe Chenal, a well-known comic opera singer, was the heroine in a comic opera lawsuit. A hosiery establishment in the Champs Elysees sued her to recover £lO, the cost of a parcel of stockings which the firm alleged Chenal ordered. The stockings were cut to size and fitted with an elastic device to prevent bursting when used on exceptionally stout legs. Mademoiselle Marthe indignantly denied that she could ever have ordered such goods. After hearing evidence of both parties, the Judge decided that he must personally see the stockings fitted. The evidence of his eye convinced him that they could never be of any use to Chenal, and the verdict was given in her favour.
