SEWERAGE LOAN?

INVERCARGILL PROPOSAL TURNED DOWN. (Special to the Times.) WELLINGTON, June 22. Replying to the Hon. J. A. Hanan regarding the desire of the Invercargill Borough Council that section 228 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1920, relative to sewerage instalment loans should be amended, the Minister for Internal Affairs stated that the request had received very careful consideration, but it was not considered desirable that provision should be made in the manner suggested by the Invercargill Borough Council. He had, however, at the same time, to indicate that it had been suggested that the desire of the Council could probably be met in a slightly different manner, viz., that moneys payable under the section quoted might be made a charge upon the land as was the case in Section 342 and in section 283 as amended by Section 15 of the 1921 Act. It was considered desirable that the registration fee should be reduced from 10/- to 5/-, as had been suggested by the Borough Council. The matter would, added the Minister, receive further consideration when an amendment of the Act in question was being dealt with.
