Salvage operations in connection with ihe former White Star-Dominion liner Laujrentic, which was torpedoed off the north roast of Ireland in 1917 while carrying gold ingot* valued at several million pounds, are again actively in progress, and will probably be completed within the next two jmonths, according to cable advices to the company’s New York office. Diving operations were carried on during the summers of 1917, 1919, and 1920, and during this time over a million tod a-half sterling in gold bullion is said to have been salved fram the wreck. During 1921 and 1922 an additional two and a-half million pounds’ worth of gold was recovered after strenuous efforts. The ship itself is stated to be almost obliterated by sand, and is tow but a torn and twisted mass of rusty jrteel and woodwork covered with all kinds t>f marine growths. What remains of the ship is lying at a depth of 40 fathoms, while in order to recover the bullion which was deposited in the ship’s strong room it Was necessary for the divers to go down another 120 ft, until they reached the bottom of the ship’s keel.
