NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW

. CONTROL BOARD BILL. DISCUSSED BY DAIRY ASSOCIATION. (Per United Press Association). PALMERSTON NORTH, June 20. Fine but threatening weather was experienced for People’s Day at the National Dairy Show, after heavy rain overnight, i The chief feature to-day was the football match between Te Aute and Wanganui College. The National Dairy Association is devoting the day to the discussion of the Dairy Produce Export Control Bill, over two hundred delegates being present when the meeting commenced, Mr Morton presiding. On the chairman’s suggestion Mr Grounds, chairman of the Association’s committee which considered the Bill, addressed the meeting. Mr Grounds contended that the ■ establishment of a Dairy Council would < make it impossible that the Control Board could follow any course inimical to the interests of the producers. The better principle in the election of the council would be to regard the dairy factories as a unit instead of individual producers. In regard to the contracts clause there was no reason to believe that existing contracts, some of which would expire in about two years, would seriously prejudice the position in the meantime. Mr Grounds stressed the necessity for organising the industry in such a way that it wsuld be possible to go to large shipping quarters and arrange a contract for the benefit of the industry. At present that was impossible, as nobedy was delegated with the responsibility for negotiating for such a contract. In this connection the speaker illustrated the value of a good shipping service secured by the South American Beef exporters to England. If the Meat Control Board worked together it ought to be possible to obtain the best shipping contract in the world.
