QUEENSTOWN TRAFFIC
DEPUTATION URGES CHEAPER FARES (Special to the Times). WELLINGTON, June 21. Ae deputation consisting of Messrs J. Horn, P. de la Perrelle, J. Edie and Munro, M.’s P. and the Mayor of Queenstown (Mr A. Simson) waited on the Minister of Railways this morning and asked that the weekend excursion fares between f Dunedin and Queenstown and Invercargill and Queenstown, which were abolished several years ago, be restored and also the fares which formerly applied from Saturday to Wednesday of every week from November to March inclusive and which ranged from 12/6 second-class single from Dunedin and correspondingly less from Invercargill. The deputation stated that under cheap fares large numbers of city people vid th their children made the trip in the summer time and thereby gained much benefit. The deputation added that even if the restored excursion fares were rather higher than the old ones the concession would be welcome. The Minister said that he regarded the matter as a very important one and stated that he proposed to go in for a progressive railway policy and therefore the request would receive full and probably favourable tonsideration.
