A VISITOR’S APPRECIATION

OF SOUTHLAND'S PREMIER STORES. Writing to a friend a visitor to Southland expressed her appreciation of the city and incidentally pays a well deserved tribute to the Progressive Policy pursued by the Progressive Stores: — Morningion, 14/6/23. Dear Jane:— I enjoyed my stay in your clean city, so much that I hope to visit it in the near future. You are fortunate in possessing such an up-to-date drapery establishment in H. & J. SMITH’S. I was astonished at the prices and quality—there is nothing like it here and my only regret is that I didn’t buy more. Sister was delighted with everything. She raved over the tweed which I intend to get made into a coat. Guess what I paid for it? 2/11 a yard; 52-inch at that! Cheap! I should say so I It would cost at least 12/6 here; and Smith’s had bales of it in heaps of colours and check effects. Did I show you the gloves I bought? Got a pair of lovely gauntlets for 5/6, and a woollen pair for 1/6. It beats me how they do it! Their stockings were marvels for cheapness and quality at 2/11 a pair—l couldn’t resist them, neither will you. 1 think that shopping day must have been my lucky day for I scored some lovely bargains, including lovely crepe de chene at 6/11 a yard and coloured ribbons at 1/6. The values are really wonderful; as I remarked before I have never seen anything like it. Take my tip and get some before it is too late. It’s me for the Progressive Stores every time. Yours always, MARIE, r—(Advt).
