CHRISTCHURCH SHOW
DUNEDIN CLAIM DENIED. (Special to the Times). CHRISTCHURCH, June 20. "If it were not for the exhibits from Dunedin, Invercargill and elsewhere the Christchurch Show would not be worth looking at,” is a remark attributed to Mr D. Murray (Balclutha) in the report of the annual meeting of the Otago A. and P. Association as published in the Dunedin papers. If Mr Murray made this statement he was decidedly not “speaking by the book” in this instance. The catalogue of the Canterbury A. and P. Association’s Metropolitan Show of last year, like its predecessors, contains a list of the names and addresses of exhibitors of stock, etc. On this list in last year’s catalogue there are roughly 300 names and an analysis of the addresses of exhibitors shows that about thirteen reside outside the Canterbury provincial dis trict in a total entry in stock classes (sheep, cattle, horses and pigs) of 1793. It is probable that the absence of the exhibits from outside the provincial districts would hardly be noticed at the 1922 show. There were only two exhibitors of draught horses who come from outside the Canterbury provincial district and they entered five horses. These figures and those relating to exhibitors from outside Canterbury appear to indicate that instead of outsiders swamping the show, there is plenty of room for them to come along and “scoop the pool” if they have the stock with which they can do so.
