PORT OF BLUFF.
The Calm (Captain McLaughlanl arrived from Lyttelton at 6.30 a.m. yesterday. She will discharge 200 tone, and load 150 tons. Her next port of call is Dunedin. The Canadian Ranger (Captain Purvis), arrived from Melbourne at 8 p.m. yesterday. She will load a quantity of wool, tallow, l»tc., and sail for Dunedin. The Union Company advise that the Opihi is expected to leave Wellington about Wednesday next for Bluff direct to load. The vessel is expected to get away about Jhe 30th instant for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, via ports. NEW P. AND O. VESSELS. The P. and O. Company have recently placed orders with Messrs Harland and Wolff for the construction, at that firm’s Greenock yard, of two passenger steamers of 15,200 tons, which will combine the excellence of the Kaiser-Hind with some features of the Nalders and Narkunda. A third ship of the same type will be constructed by Messrs Hawthorn, Leslie, ( and Co., at Newcastle. The Greenock yard has also an order for a 10,000-ton passenger express steamer of the Salsette type. All the new vessels, which are intended for the India mail service, will have reciprocating engines, and will be fitted to burn oil fuel under Scotch boilers. OROWAITI CHARTERED. The oil tanker Orowaiti, which sailed from San Francisco on June 1 for Wellington, has been chartered by the Union Company to Messrs William Cory and Sons (Ltd.), of London. This firm is said to be the largest bunkering company in Great Britain, and probably one of the largest organisations of its kind in the world. The Orowaiti has a cargo of 8600 tons of fuel oil in addition to 20,000 cases of petrol, and is due at Wellington about the end of June. After discharge of the case oil she will proceed to the wharf at Miramar and the fuel oil will be pumped to the tanks built for the Vacuum Oil Company, and since acquired by the Union Company. WELLINGTON, June 21. Forecast:—Present indications are for Westerly to southerly winds, strong to a gale, and cold squally weather. Heavy showers are probable generally, with hail and sleet in the south and snow on the high country. The barometer is unsteady, but is rising fast everywhere soon.
