GORE SALE. A POOR YARDING. Only a small yarding was offered in the Gore yards yesterday, and the selling was over in under two hours. No fat cattle were offered and the few pens of stores sold at about recent rates, the market being lifeless. Sheep sold well and prices showed an increase of about 2/- per head on those ruling at the previous sale. Fat wethers sold up to 37/-, while the best price for forward wethers was 30/-. There was a demand for good hoggets which sold from 18/- to 22/6. Fat ewes found a ready market at prices ranging from 20/- to 23/-. Breeding ewes brought good competition and full and failing mouthed ewes ranged from 20/- to 26/-. A line of 4,6, and 8-tooth ewes were sold at 33/-. OTAUTAU STOCK SALE. A comparatively small yarding came forward on Friday last, but there was a good demand, excellent prices were obtained, and the quality was also good. Hoggets were up 2/- to 3/- per head, but the prices for wethers and ewes were on a par with the last sale. There was a good inquiry for the better classes of store sheep. CANTERBURY MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, June 19. One of the lines which is still showing activity is potatoes, which have firmed up again. Most of the inquiries are coming from Auckland and are in many cases from over-sellers who are now looking round for stuff with which to meet orders. Seed potatoes are also being inquired for from ~nd. The quality coming forward during the past few days has been quite good, with very few rejections. There is an imnreseion that Auckland merchants are using their best endeavours to force down prices of the local potatoes and as a result, farmers are not showing any particular desire to sell. Many of them in fact, have an idea that they will yet be able to get £lO per ton on trucks, and are not disposed to consider a lower figure. Oats are dull with little indication of improving. Cocksfoot is a little firmer. Advices from London are that higher prices are likely to rule for Danish seed than was the case last year. Seed which brought 7d last year will probably fetch 9d this year. Linseed has been well sought after during the last few days, Auckland being the principal source of demand. METAL MARKET.
