SOCKBURN AERODROME
AGREEMENT WITH COMPANY. GOVERNMENT TO TAKE OVER. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 16. Questioned about the Government assuming control of the Sockburn Aerodrome, the Minister of Defence stated that an agreement has been reached with the company. The Government has arranged to take over at an early date the whole of the aerodrome and its hangars and aeroplanes and the property of the company. The Minister added that the Government was greatly indebted to the founder of the company (Mr Wigram), whose contribution to the cost was £lO,OOO. The Government had made a valuation of the concern, and had taken it over at less than that valuation. He was not prepared at the present juncture to state the cost of the purchase. .He also said that he was not aware of what had been done regarding the appointment of three pilots and a mechanical staff.
