THE .FREE STATE
REPUBLICANS MAY CONTEST ELECTIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, June 17. (Received June 17, 11.5 p,m.) De Valera issued a statement that there was no chance of fair play for the Republicans at the coming elections, but it was possible the party would have a candidate in each constituency for the purpose of demonstrating to the world what Ireland’s choice would have been if England’s war threat had been removed. Candidates elected would refuse to take the oath of allegiance to a foreign King. The proposals recently made were the Republicans’ last word to England and the Free State.
