HOSPITAL BOARD

WALLACE. The monthly meeting of the Board held on Thursday was attended by Mr S. Fowle (chairman), Miss Hunt and Messrs Linscott, Horrell, Dyer, Buckingham and Johnson. The Southland Hospital Board wrote, regarding the admittance of two patients from Wallace District.—Received. A resident of Mossburn again wrote, protesting against having to pay adult fee for infant in Dunedin Hospital. In reply to a request, the secretary of the Otago Board intimated that the fee of 9/- per day was charged all patients from outside districts whether infant or adult. The Mossburn resident, on being notified of this, then agreed to pay the full amount. A resident of Thornbury district applied for admission to the Hospital Cottage. He is an old age pensioner and had been burnt out. —Agreed to. A resident of Wairio wrote, to the effect that he could not afford to contribute towards the upkeep of his father in the Institution.—lt was decided to ask the three sons to contribute 2/6 per week each. The chairman, Lumsden Town Board, forwarded a statement of patients treated by the District Nurse. The numbers were: Southland County, 38; Wallace, 20.—Received. R. H. MacCallum, District Nurse, Tuatapere, tendered her resignation as from July 13.—Referred to Committee. Director-General of Health, Wellington, wrote, asking that the Board bp represented at a conference to be held in Wellington in connection with the Otaki and Pukeora Sanatoriums.—Mr J. C. ; Thompson, M.P., was appointed to represent the Board. The Southland Power Board Inspector reported on the electric light installation at the Hospital. It would be practically impossible to connect the present installation for the Power Board’s current and he suggested a new installation, which he considered would be the cheaper in the end. Parkinson, Ltd., estimated that the cost would be £9l 2/-. —It was decided to have the Hospital connected with the Power Board’s current. Several firms to be asked to supply tenders for the contract. The medical superintendent reported as follows:—Patients remaining from last month, 19 males, 11 females; total treated, 30 males, 17 females; discharged during month, 17 males, 7 females; died, 1 male; patients remaining, 12 males and 10 females. The following donations were acknowledged with thanks:—Mr W. Hopcroft (Gummie’s Bush), apples; Mrs Quested (Nightcape), old linen. After a great deal of discussion as to the order in connection with a motion and an amendment, the meeting adjourned for five minutes. After resuming, it was decided to sell the Board’s property, consisting of 50 acres, at Otaitai Bush. Mr Buckingham then gave notice of motion that the question be considered again and put into action after next meeting. The chairman and Messrs Buckingham and Linscott were apfiointed to set a valuation on the property at Otaitai Bush. Accounts amounting to £330 19/3 were passed for payment.
