THE HALF-HOLIDAY.

To the Editor. Sir, —I was pleased to see “Retailer’s” letter in your issue of this morning. There is always in every line of business one or two mean hungry souls who remain open after others have closed. I think it would be only fair to the public for the Drapers’ Association to publish the name of the man mainly responsible for this breach of faith to the employees. Personally I would like to know those firms who favour a straight run and twelve o-clock close whether their meaner competitors do or not. They will find that their stand will appeal to k the public. One firm has sent out notices to its clients that it is closing at one o’clock, but as this business is run from another town perhaps it has no say in the matter. If rumours are true one other of our big guns” has been trying to “run with the hare and hunt with the hounds,” but the public soon tumble to that sort of thing. There was no definite promise for 12 o’clock, but all the same there was a distinct understanding. Why not act in a manly way over the matter—l am, etc., EMPLOYEE.
