MEDICAL SCHOOL

VOTE OF £130,000 WANTED. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 7. A deputation met the Premier, placing the requirements of the Medical and Dental Schools before him, involving in all £130,000. Dr. Ferguson stated that last year the position became very acute because the general Medical Council of England stated that teaching in New Zealand must be on certain lines, and if this was not complied with their degrees would be unrecognised. He urged the necessity for new buildings, and asked for £30,000 for the Dental School. Mr Massey interjected: “Would they take a total of £100,000?” adding that he could not definitely state what he could offer. He had first to see the money available, and provide an equitable distribution. He recognised the Dental School was the more immediate urgent need.
