PRICE OF WHEAT
“A LITTLE MORE NEXT YEAR.” GROWERS’ CONFIDENCE BOARD. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 7. At the annual provincial conference of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union, a remit from the executive was to the effect, “that this conference empowers the Wheat Board to deal with the next season’s wheat on behalf of the wheat-growers, whom the conference represents, and recommends the Board to take this matter in hand without delay.” Various speakers referred with appreciation to the good work the Board had already done for the growers. Mr G. W. Leadley, chairman of the Wheat Board, said he thought the farmers would be justified in asking for a little more next year, to encourage them to grow more. He urged farmers not to abandon growing, but to put a reasonable area in wheat this year. A lengthy discussion took place, all the speakers, being agreed, that a guaranteed price was necessary if farmers were to grow wheat. The remit was carried unanimously. _____
