BREACH OF PROMISE
PLAINTIFF AWARDED DAMAGES (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 11. The breach of promise case in which Winifred Eileen Riordan sued Edward William Veitch £750 damages, the jury returned a verdict for plaintiff for £75 net, their direction being that the money was to be paid direct to plaintiff. PALMERSTON NORTH CASE. PALMERSTON NORTH, May 11. In the breach of promise case, Anne Florance versus W. J. A. Hall, the defendant in evidence admitted that after breaking with the plaintiff he met his present wife the day after Miss Florance left and proposed the same day. Corroborative evidence for the defence was called to show that plaintiff had declared that she never intended to marry the defendant. The jury, after a retirement of sixty-five minutes, returned a verdict for plaintiff, awarding £3OO solatium.
