DAIRY CONTROL BOARD
VALUE OF MEAT CONTROL BOARD Mr E. Newman, formerly M.P. for Manawatu, speaking at the opening of the Rongotea autumn show, stated that at present the dairy industry' was made the subject of many despondent overseas reports in the newspapers. He would not say that these were mere propaganda, but they had to bear in mind that, before the war, the fanners, acting on the indications of such London reports, had sold their meat and produce cheaply, beieving that bad times were ahead. The reverse had proved to be the case, however, and many, including hirpself, had since regretted their credulity in this respect. He urged farmers not to take these reports as a definite indication of the outlook. The position affecting dairy farmers now seemed to be much as it had been for other farmers before the inception of the Meat Control Board, the success of which he detailed. He urged dairymen to support the Dairy Control Bill as an alternative to playing into the hands of grasping Home interests, and to back up those members in the House who were supporting the measure. Through its offices, he stated, high produce prices could be reasonably sure, while without it they could not expect to hold the market values.
