1 INCREASED CARRYING CAPACITY. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) SYDNEY, May 10. The steamer Stephen will shortly arrive from London with material for two new cables for the Pacific Cable Board—one for the Southport-Sydney line and the ether for the Suva-Auckland section. As the routes have already been surveyed the work ioi Laying the cables will be started shortly 'efter the vessel’s arrival. j Mr Milward states that a new type of cable is now being tested which is expected :to increase the carrying capacity at least ! eight times compared with what is possible at present.
