TO-DAY’S APPEAL.

The work of the Barnado Homes Is too well known to require elaborate explanation in these days, but it is possible that few people realise that the organisation which is carrying on the work of Dr. Barnado in the interests of the poor children in the Old Country, is faced with extremely difficult problems as a direct heritage of the war. Increased prices haw made it more difficult to carry on the work without increased financial aid, and to-day the appeal on behalf of the Barnado Homes is more urgent than it has been for very many years. The scope of the organisation’s activities is always widening and the cost of carrying on is steadily rising. Postwar troubles in the Old Country had a serious effect on the finances of the Barnado Homes, increasing the demands made on the funds while cuttirtg down the amount of monetary assistance from the public. In the past Invercargill has contributed generously to the Barnado Homes, and if the public realises how’ necessary additional help has become we have no doubt but that the response to-day will exceed anything of the past.
