SOUTH INVERCARGILL BREEZES.
To the Editor. Sir,—Councillor Jones is to be commended for his action in endeavouring to assert the supremacy of the Council in all matters affecting the Borough. The Mayor’s sickly defence if the Town Clerk can hardly raise the prestige of the former in the eyes of the electors. The excuse of being too busy to carry cut an instruction that would not occupy five minutes of time appears to be a clumsy attempt to side-step the issue, and one which, though no doubt satisfactory to the Mayor, will fail to convince those who take an intelligent interest in civic affairs.
It is a matter for regret that the new Mayor did not support the councillor in his stand for right in this case.—l am, etc., • ELECTOR. May 9, 1923.
